    Do Narcotics/Undercover Officers use drugs?

As part of the job, are undercover officers allowed to use drugs and possible commit crimes? I've been brainwashed too much by Hollywood but it seems logical that some people are forced to commit small or large crimes to cover their identity. Any truth in this or should I stay away from Training Day and Narc.

I forgot another great example of this is Leonardo DiCaprio in The Departed. He even shoots someone in the apartment!

From what i've seen, shows like DEA. Is that they they'll usually hire a CI or confidential informant to go in deep, and i think sometimes in order to portray themselves as a buyer/user they could infact use drugs if dire situations call for it. Not too sure about actual officers, i'd like to assume that they wouldn't. As department policies would technically prevent them from doing so.

I'm Not an LEO so dont quote me on this... My major is CJ though.

        Absolutely not

No narcotic offense is so great where you would allow the life of an Officer to be harmed in ANY way. People DIE using narcotics. There is no FDA for cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and that stuff can kill.

A deputy once told me that he would smoke marijuana but not inhale it. He told me he had to cover up the pork smell that the crooks could smell out in a heart beat. Also told me that he never failed a drug test that the dept. issued. So I guess that means he didnt really use drugs?

Like what Clinton said....." When I was in England, I experimented with marijuana a time or two, and I didn't like it. I didn't inhale and never tried it again" I guess that really works LOL

When I was sitting on the Grand Jury in LA, most of the "undercovers" were confidential informants, they had everything on them removed from them, they were given the buy money, and they conducted the buy on drugs and/or guns.

LE gets drug tested. If they failed a test, I would assume that would be a serious problem.

What agencies test their officers? I know of none in my area.

Denzel was off the chain in that one! I was watching it and thinking of the Rampart scandal and LAPD!

I was under the impression they do drug test. I've heard for instance LAPD does random drug tests. I would imagine before and/or after a serious incident or operation it would be expected that Officers would be drug tested.

Yes. I find it interesting that he was a Marine before, so i think his environment must have changed something within him internally. Or maybe he was a bad apple from the start, he passed all the hiring phases. And he was actually arrested on duty in his LAPD uniform!
