    Question about defense

Hi guys, thanks for taking a moment to help me out.
I've been thinking this one over for a bit and figured I should just ask.

The situation, I'm 19, still live at home, ive got rifles that my dad bought for me to shoot before I was 18 and we haven't transferred them to my name he also has a glock that I shoot. I've got a shotgun as well that hasn't been transferred to my name yet either. My question is, if I had to use a firearm in my house for home defense, I would prefer the handgun because I've been to front sight and taken their defensive handgun course and the shotguns not really set up perfect for home defense. Would I be at risk of legal ramifications using my dads handgun for defense and would it be better to use the shotgun?

    Any input is greatly appreciated.

Don't worry about the registration issues re self-defense. Use the gun you feel most comfortable with.
