Well, I am going in Florida, so that may be the reason for the longer amount of hours.

As to the PT, I am Active Duty Navy now, so I PT 5 days/week anyway with our students.

          Here is the background.

When I got down here, I became part of a Military Augmentee Unit with the Escambia County SO. We do traffic control, walking security at events like the fair and the 5k's, reports, dispatch, etc. All non sworn work. We were getting tons of training.....weapons, radio for ride alongs, tactical driving, etc. We felt that we were getting more out of it than we were giving back, so myself and a Gunnery Sergeant decided to sponsor our selves through the academy (county is broke, just like everywhere else). After we get done with the academy and pass the state tests, we will go into the reserve deputy program.

Its a win/win for me, because I want to do this when I retire. This way I get certifications, training, and build experience. Its better than walking in the door when I am 40 saying "I have no experience or training, hire me".

Also, with the Navy doing this PTS (Perform To Serve, or Prepare To Separate, depending on whom you ask), I cant guarantee my future Naval career, so this is a backup plan.

The invisible recommendation is a good one. Since they already know who you are just keep low key. Most people are worried about the PT portion but if you are in relative good shape it should not be a problem. In our academy it is the writing that slams most people.

One day you will look back and realize that is wasn't all that bad. However you would not be interested in repeating it.

People told me the same thing about Boot Camp, however I wouldnt mind going back. I knew how to play the game, and played it well.

Keep your head down, don't try to be a star in the academy. Get through it, and prove yourself on the streets where it counts.
