Question about obtaining armed gaurd carry permit

    Hello All,

I am going through the process of becoming an armed guard. I have clean record, with the exception of a few moving violation. Also, to add I had my licence suspended once for not paying a ticket on time, but it was for having a tail light out. Other than that, the suspension was over 9 years ago. The seat belt ticket and moving violation were over 5 years ago. To tell you little bit about myself: I am a fire protection contractor and student. My future plans are geared towards becoming a fire fighter or border patrol agent. As many of you know construction is in the dumps right now. I have a family to provide for. The security industry is booming. With that said, my question is, what are the chances that if I take the firearms portion of the course I might be denied the right to carry? I have always tried to keep my nose clean and my father works with SD sheriffs Dept.
My main concern is what are the chances I pay the $300 and get denied the armed guard certification? I am an avid shooter and I know I will pass the written and live fire portion. I just want to know so I don't spend the $300 with nothing to show. Any info is very helpful.
    Thanks
    -Prophet

You should be fine. Take the leap and best of luck to you.

Why not just apply for the SD Sheriffs where your pops work? I think they love father and sons deputies?

If the OP is concerned that he may currently be barred from purchasing a firearm, then fill out and mail a Personal Firearms Eligibility Check. If you have DROS'ed a firearm within the past few months and haven't done anything to warrant being ineligible since then, you are most likely fine.

To get into semantics... there is no "right to carry" as an armed guard. It is a revocable license issued by the state. You pass the course and, assuming you aren't barred from possessing firearms, you will get the license.

        Good luck.

i worked a few security gigs and i have even spoke to guys with ccws with the "in the scope of duty" restrictions, getting an exposed firearm permit shouldnt be a prob at all.

Doesn't sound like you have anything to worry about in getting an exposed firearm permit for work. I know a few guards that have the gun card and they are scum... but just haven't gotten popped for that felony that prohibits them from firearm ownership.
