OPEN CARRY in Los Angeles County

I open carry my weapon with accordance to the laws, I have not yet encountered a police officer while OCing how are the LAPD trained to respond to people such as my self? (i understand the checking of the weapon) Should I show you my ID or should I refuse? Will it make it easier on every one if I comply or does this open a door for more conversation and waisted time? I am not like one of these guys on youtube looking to get hits so you wont find me coming around a LEO just to get a rise out of you. (I respect what you do and waisting your time so I can get hits is not on my agenda)

Now, once again im not asking for LEGAL advise just want to know what would be the best case scenario for the BOTH of us to go through the procedures swiftly and efficiently. So my question is mostly about the ID part.

Thank you and keep up the good work.

LASD apparently got the memo in this post:
ARCHIVED Calguns Foundation Wiki here: http://web.archive.org/web/201908310...itle=Main_Page

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

Thank you for your reply. After almost 100 people your the first. You should get a raise. I should pay more taxes. By the way that memo is incorrect as far as the distance in a school zone. It is 1000feet not 1500 as stated here in (E1 & F2) in penal code 626.9. you can see it here.

Once again I thank you for your reply and im not trying to argue the facts just want to be 100% within the law if I find my self talking with LEO's.

Well, it's a matter of opinion I think, I might ask him, "am I required to show my ID" then go from there. I'd prefer not to show it but if the LEO says I'm required to (I know I'm not unless it's during investigation of a crime) I would state my name and most likely would not have my ID on me.

I don't open carry but if I did I would leave my ID in the car anyway.

Now why would you do that? Would you leave your ID in the car normally or would you just do it while OC?

Why people go out of their way to be difficult is beyond me.

I was told that one must carry Identification on his person (regardless of all else). So because of this I always have ID. I want to show my ID and not be difficult but the problem is I dont want to open the door for a longer unnecessary conversation. I want to make the encounter if one shows its self to be as swift and efficient as possible for both my self and th LEO.

                    LEO's any thoughts on this?

The more difficult you make it for us to do our jobs, the longer it will take for you to go on your way.

Think of it another way, if you are asked by a cashier for an amount, would it be quicker to give her the bills and get change or stand there and count our your pennies or even write a check?

Before we get into whether or not you have to provide ID, I'll tell you that if I contact you, I have a reason and a job to do. Let me do mine and you'll be on your way soon enough.

I've completed traffic stops in 6 minutes for a cite and I've let people go in under a minute if I don't cite. I've also taken much longer when the violator does not cooperate. He dragged it out, not me.

I'll be as professional as I do with everything but you dictate the tempo and how much you want to dance with us.

I understand where your coming from and I agree 100% but my question is still not really answered, if I comply and give you the ID, doesnt that take longer than me saying, "I reserve the right to stay silent, I do not consent to any searches of my person or my property including searches of serial numbers on my weapon. I aslo will not resist physical violence or force against me to the inspection of my weapon. Depending on weather you reach and check the weapon or you dont. And then followed by, "am I being detained or am i free to go?" (in mind that all this is taking place while doing my lawful business) and you just approach me cause you had a call.

There are a few inaccuracies in that memo. Not sure where the 1500ft came from. The other one was a simple oversight error....

Under "scenario" they mention that the person is carrying two loaded high caps mags in his pocket.
The memo only addresses the legality of possession of the high caps, but those magazines being in his pocket are concealed, and if loaded, are a violation.
Loaded magazines must be carried openly just as the gun. It is a strange twist in the law that qualifies a loaded magazine as a violation if concealed.

You can recite the whole YouTube mantra and we can go from there or we can be done as soon as you give me ID. I don't try to delay people more than I need to and I have no problem with OC as long as I don't get any problems in doing what I have to do.
