    issue ammo in the SFBA?

I'm embarrassed to say I didn't even know there was LEO forum on CalGuns. Another CalGunner suggested that this might be the right place to re-post my inquiry.

Now that I've perhaps found the correct forum, maybe some of you would be willing to share your insight? It would be much appreciated!

Anyone know what the local agencies in the SFBA issue as their standard sidearms and what types of ammo they issue? How about their long guns (shotguns/carbines?)

I've been trying to search out this info with little luck. I don't suppose this is info restricted from the public or anything. Various people have offered advice that it isn't a bad idea to match a HD/SD pistol and ammo choice to the local agencies if possible, so I figured it'd be worth looking into.
I ask mostly out of personal curiosity, but I've also seen advice in various places that it isn't a bad idea to choose SD/HD ammo based on what local agencies issue for a variety of reasons both practical and not-so-much.

If this is info restricted from the public for whatever reason, please let me know. No biggie.

    Thanks and stay safe!

It's no big secret... if the department has a standard issue weapon, then the purchase contracts for the weapons are public info and you can request it via the California Public Records Act. If the department does not have a standard issue weapon, as some smaller agencies have, then you have to ask what is allowed... and they might not tell you over the phone.

I would say if you really want to know, call the departments directly and just ask. Sometimes the police desk can be very helpful.

For San Francisco all officers are issued a Sig P226 or P229. Command Staff officers have a option to get a P239 also. Ammo is 180 Gr. 40 S&W

      Shotgun is a Beretta 1201P, Ammo is a 12 GA. 2 3/4" Flitecontrol Wad.

Patrol Rifle is a Rock River TASC, Ammo is .223 REM 64Gr. Power-Point.
