Ruger LC9

Ruger just announced the sale of a 9mm version of the LCP. Like the LCP, it will be a non-roster gun and available to LE only. I contacted my favorite LE FFL and was quoted $339 + tax & DROS. It's on my "short list" now.

The slide locks open on an empty magazine and the external slide stop is easy to reach and manipulate for positive firearm functioning. A single-sided manual safety and a magazine disconnect are additional features of the Ruger LC9. A California-approved loaded chamber indicator allows for immediate visual and tactile confirmation that the chamber is loaded. A pivoting external extractor provides reliable extraction of the 9mm cases.

These "LE only" guns are getting less and less special every day.

That thread talks about single shot conversions, not being on the CA roster.

Another post talks about magazine disconnect and loaded chamber indicators, so that is a step to getting on the roster.

I have been waiting for this for a long time. I'll be in for at least 1. I almost bought the LCP but so glad I waited! Can't wait to see what third party vendors will offer (holsters, sights, mags, etc). Hopefully someone in Norcal has them available otherwise I'll pick one up at Proforce on my next Socal trip.

I am at a Big Rock Sports show in Vegas right now and supposedly they have one down stairs. I will check it out for you.

I'd like to know if it would be too big for a pocket like the LCP. That was what drew me to the LCP to begin with. I had plenty of guns to wear on my belt, but a true pocket gun is great. It looks to be about twice as heavy as the LCP, and only slightly less heavy than a non-airweight J-frame.

I carried the LCP as a backup for about a year or so... got tired of that long *** 14 pound double action trigger and puny 95 grain round, even if it is Ranger SXT. I went and plopped down $380 for a Taurus 709 Slim 9mm with 7+1 capacity. Nice single action safe trigger like the Glock with a trigger safety and a frame safety a la the 1911. It also has a double strike capability so you just pull the trigger again on a round that didn't fire if that is your protocol instead of the tap-rack-bang drill.

I've been carrying that Taurus since I got it and it's also my EDC off-duty. Great little weapon. Slim, thin, light, and easy to shoot.

Looks like the LC9 will have the same trigger pull as the LCP from the pics. The trigger is in the same relative position and the gun looks a bit bulky.

Have you tried the Taurus 709? It's not much bigger than the LCP and the trigger is sweet!

Heck, if you are local, I'll let you shoot mine at a range as long as you pay for it and let me loose a few rounds. I can always use more practice.

I am not impressed. It is between the size of the LCP and the SR9C.

If you guys want some great guns, go Diamondback! They have new 9mm that is coming out that is only .05" wider than their DB380 and 1/4" longer!
