Correctable violation question

Hey guys - quick question!



I have a correctable violation ( window tint and front license plate) on a car that no longer runs. The violations have been corrected - but I cannot get the car to a law enforcement office to have it inspected. I called up my local chp office to see if they had any advice on how to handle this for me and the dude told me to "figure it out for myself".


any of you calgunnin LEO's have any advice or suggestions?

already thought about towing it - the price tag on that is about 250$

Tow it or pay the fine instead of the admin fee.

Try this. Just don't do it on a busy day or expect to wait. It's low on the priority list compared to other calls.

IIRC...if the cite was written by CHP, only CHP can sign it off? I'm going on personal experience from some time ago...but I had to drive to a CHP office to get mine signed off. Some Sheriff/PD departments charge a fee for sign-offs...so you may be stuck going down to a station (obviously patrol units don't want to make change ).

In the end, you may end up just paying the fine...unless you want to get the car running again, or tow it to the station.

Where was the car parked? If a car isn't running, you should put it on the driveway. It is considered private property and they can't ticket it. But you're on your own if you left it on the street. Oh yeah, if it's on the street, make sure the sticker doesn't run out either.

I've signed off on CHP tickets. No problems from the court.

Your best bet is to hope your local PD doesn't charge and would allow a patrol unit to come by and sign it off as a public service. Some of the more ritzy neighborhoods have full service departments that cater to their residents a bit more than say... LAPD where they might be kinda busy.

This one. My son had SBSO come out and do a VIN check on a car that was abandoned at a house after the tenant left. The property management co told him he could have if he got it off the property. The vehicle was no longer in DMV records, I don't remember how long to took but I seem to recall that we got a phone call when they had a chance to come out.

Thanks for clearing that up...my experience was some time ago...and I thought I recalled the person on the phone telling me I was required to go to a CHP office...in the end it turned out for the better...the CHP officer informed me my local Sheriff charges $15 to do sign offs, whereas CHP does it no-charge

FYI, Los Angeles County Courts now require a "Certificate of Correction" rather than just signing off the back of the ticket like most counties allow. The requirement was because of widespread fraud and people forging officers signatures on the tickets.

LASD charges $15 to issue the certificate, and I've been told CHP just started charging for inspections in LA County. Many city police departments will still do it for free for their residents, and just as many no longer do inspections or only do it for their citations.

I send a PM to the OP with some suggestions that might help in this situation.

CHP will do it for free in ALL counties.
