    Challange Coins

Does your department have a departmental or specialty unit challenge coin?

What do you charge for the coins and what size are they?

Is there any interest in purchasing other departments' coins?

      Dept Coin, Front and Rear:

      Don't remember how much it is...Between $10-$20.

California Peace Officer's Memorial Coin (Rear I think):

My display box (Station Coin is the blurry thing...Shhh...):

      Station Coin (Rear, edited):

I know of one person who has a station coin other than station sworn...He works at the CA state capital and he provided very necessary assistance to one of my partners during a very embarrassing wardrobe malfunction...It's a very funny story...

My own personal opinion about these dumb coins for L/E was that they were "stolen" from the military. Next, several agency bomb squads took the idea and now patrol has them. To me, it devaluates the entire idea. Look at LASD and all of their dumb challenge coins.

I can say that, because I work for them. I'm allowed to bash that dumb idea. I'm part of it!

I collect a few of those but we don't have any of our own. Nobody would buy it, including me.

IMO, anyone in public safety, sworn or not, military or civilian LE, who puts his/her *** on the line for society, country, the greater good, etc has earned the honor of making/carrying a challenge coin. It's ok to be proud of what you do.

My fed agency has a tradition of giving challenge coins to all academy graduates.

LASD didn't have those when I was on. Man, I'm old.

I helped three Secret Service guys out at work and was given a Miami field office coin. It was a kind gesture on the agents' part for all the work I did to help them sort out some problems.
