My understanding that LEO's are able to buy off list pistols w/o a problem.
Do the paperwork like everyone else and include a copy of Your LE ID.
Has anything changed?????

Also , do You feel that some dealers are making their own laws?

(1) They do the paperwork and 10 day wait,unless they have a letter on department letterhead then they can more or less cash and carry. DL and ID for the record.

(2) Why do you ask that question about dealers? You think they would break a law or make up their own to make a sale? That question make no sense.

The other says that a non FFL can not ship a gun to FFL.

Yes, some FFL's have policies that are more restrictive than the laws.
e.g. A local shop quit accepting guns from private parties.

Your OP asked if dealers are making their own laws. If you can buy off list and the dealer is not to your liking,find another.

I have seen one shop that required an ID to buy a Ruger LCP, in addition to a letter (not just to bypass the waiting period, but to authorize the purchase of the off-list weapon). Every other shop I have been to just requires the ID and you wait 10 days if you don't have a letter. However, if you are a LEO you shouldn't have any trouble obtaining a letter to bypass the wait anyway.

Not all sworn officers are allowed to buy DOJ restricted guns. A Level III reserve in CA cannot purchase a Ruger LCP new, even thought that Level III might carry a weapon while on-duty. A Level II can only purchase a Ruger LCP if they carry a gun when on-duty. A Level I or Regular officer can buy a Ruger LCP without a problem.

We're also able to obtain a department letter to waive the 10 day waiting period. still required to show LE ID/CA DL

Not sure, I've never dealt with a dealer who didn't want my business

When I was looking to buy a pistol not on the list I was turned down by two of the local dealers. I simply asked if they were willing to sell XYZ handgun to LE. One dealer told me they stopped selling off list guns to LE. The other dealer told me the gun was illegal in California, lectured me for trying to put them in an awkward position, and hung up. Luckily I found a great local FFL willing to transfer the gun. So, yes, there are dealers that won't sell to us, but I wouldn't say they are making their own laws.

Heck, I've even had distributors refuse to send off list guns to me. Ignorance is not bliss!! lol

Just go buy at LE only dealers. They don't give you any run around and their prices are better anyway.

Since I discovered Pro Force in Brea, CA and Botach in West LA, I don't set foot in Turner's or any other gun shop unless they have some smoking deal on a consignment or something, but with LE prices, we can buy new guns cheaper than you see even here in the Marketplace.
