Oh yeah, +1 on the super feet insoles. Great support and my feet don't get sore.

To the OP, if your job is to walk eight miles a day, why do you need to wear a heavy boot? Is it part of the look? Wouldn't a much lighter weight shoe help you do your job better?

I think the zipper is really for the velcro generation.....so it looks like you can tie your shoes by yourself.

                j/k, guys.

Danners, and have 'em resoled as needed. 15 years walking prison tiers, and I'd never buy anything else.

YMMV with the RG's. I tried them on at Big 5 and they were uncomfortable.

Settled on Rothco 8" 'Forced Entry' side-zips for the price, comfortable as heck but you need to get (better) insoles.

I've heard the Oakley are nice for the first 3 months, then they are junk and feet are miserable.

I've been using Rocky's for 8 years straight. Soles would go 5 years, but my wear on the leather limits them to 2. Spenco Insoles replaced annually.

I'm all about the side zip. I only buy boots that have them. I purchased a pair of Bates Durashocks about a month ago. Love 'em.

Official Bates Footwear Site - Shop military boots, tactical boots, security & uniform shoes and more. Find high quality boots designed to protect and perform.

Adidas GSSG or Nike FSB. Either one runs about $130 but is well worth the $.

Both beats all the bates, 511 etc I've tried.

For day shift, when you have to look all pretty and PC, I like my Thorogoods. They are comfortable and shine up really nice. On graves, I wear Eccos with orthotics. I will probably try the Oakleys or Danners next. Chances are, I'll be using orthotics with either. Makes a world of difference for comfort.

Rocky's 5066 - best damn pair of boots I ever wore on duty! I still use my original Rocky 5066s that I purchased back in 1999. Only had to re-sole them once. Comfortable, durable, warm and still hold an Academy shine.

I've also tried (and did not like) Magnum Hi-Tecs and the 5.11 brand boots.

My best advice is: DO NOT GO CHEAP ON A PAIR OF DUTY BOOTS

You truly do get what you pair for...

100% Australian made. Work boots built as tough as the people that wear them!

Best boots I have ever worn in my life and the soles last forever.

Started wearing these last year and they still look new. All of my knee pain went away once i started wearing these.
