I know there are other threads asking the same kind of questions but...
I was wondering what are some good first steps to becoming a LEO? I wanted to enlist out of high school but decided to go to college for my family instead. I'm 22, graduated school with a BA and now I want to live my life and pursue what I want to do. My Dad's retired CHP (works for the SO now) but it's not the field they want me to go into, and I'd really rather not discuss it with him.
I don't really know where to start or what to expect. I don't want to be spinning my wheels for years doing volunteer work, is there anything I can do to commit and get my foot in the door? I've heard that the CHP is hiring but that's not really what I want to do, I really want to work for a PD somewhere in the Bay Area (or anywhere else)...
Like, I have no idea what the pay scales are compared to CHP or how to get started. Can you find a PD that's hiring and go to Academy? Do you go to one department and hope they eventually pick you up or do you go through academy and then get picked?
I'm 100% serious this is what I want for life, I just don't know where to start =/.
