    Any K9 Handlers here?

I am interviewing for a spot on our K9 time tomorrow and am a little ansy about it.

I have been going over our Use of Force policy and Graham v. Conner non stop for the last couple days.

Been trying to bone up on Schutzhund training and the ideology behind its usage.

    Anyone have any recommendations?

Does your department have a policy regarding when K9s should be deployed or does your Use of Force police cover it? If not, just be prepared to be ask questions regarding when it is appropreate to deploy the K9 (K9 tracks, fleeing felons, violent felonies, ect..) and when it should be avoided (Juveniles, elderly subjects, misdemeanor crimes, ect..) Good luck.

Our policy covers it sort of in our general UoF policy, but K9's have their own procedure manual thats secret squirrel. I know it exists however its mighty illusive.

We can deploy K9 when there is a case of someone actively resisting arrest as well - I looked up some case law Fike v. Cleghorn and Matthew v. Jones - both dealing with a subject actively resisting arrest (fighting the cops)
