My son in law is an officer in Arizona for a medium size department. The pay is close, but their retirement is behind us in benefits. Their training is pretty good and he was issued some nice equipment. Many of the outlying counties don't pay well and backup is a LONG way off. I know one guy in Mohave County who's backup is a minimum of an hour away. He has to drive thru Utah to get to part of his patrol area north of the Grand Canyon. One call up there can take up an entire shift.

Do your homework and make an informed decision is the best advice I can give you.
