Ok so I just turned 18 and wanted to know what the limitations were about transporting. I live by Jackson and shoot on my property and also my grandma has a place to shoot. So I was wondering if I am able to transport it to and from there or any other place I will be shooting at(obviously in a locked case, ammo separate). I heard from one know-it-all that you have to be 21 for all that stuff. He's wrong most of the time anyways. I just don't want to end up transporting it if I'm too young and not supposed to. Thanks

Transportation of a handgun question

Ammo does not have to be separate. -
Is it a handgun?Comment

It is registered to my dad. It was a grad gift but I was under 18 so they registered it to him. It is a glock 22 and I know that the ammo can't be in the same case that the gun is in.
I just want to know if I can transport it to different shoot places.Comment

Well i dont know if you can barrow a handgun being under 21, but you can have it transfered to you your namenow since your 18 through intrafamilial transfer.
And you can drive aroud with that handgun where you please it just has to be unloaded (no loaded mag in the gun, empty mag in the gun is ok) and in a locked caseLast edited by thevic; 08-27-2010, 11:08 AM.Victor M.

California Penal Code section 12025 does not prevent a citizen of the United States over 18 years of age who is not lawfully prohibited from firearm possession, and who resides or is temporarily in California, from transporting by motor vehicle any pistol, revolver, or other firearm capable of being concealed upon the person provided the firearm is unloaded and stored in a locked container.
The term "locked container" means a secure container which is fully enclosed and locked by a padlock, key lock, combination lock, or similar locking device. This includes the trunk of a motor vehicle, but does not include the utility or glove compartment. For more information, refer to California Penal Code Section 12026.1.NRA Life Member

So-
I am about to take a trip from the Bay up to Arcata (Eureka) to see a friend.
After Willits (as many know) the 101 can be very isolated. I am travelling at night. I prefer to be armed in this instance. Not on me, but in a bag, unloaded and unlocked with mag in the same bag behind the driver side.
Now, I know this is illegal.
Here is my question.
If I get pulled over, at what point do I let the officer know the situation of the firearm? If everything is just "license, do you know how fast you were going, etc" do I even bring it up?
I am a law abiding citizen (to a point, we all have our bends, here and there), and I would never want to put a LEO in an uncomfortable scenario or to perceive me as a threat...
Any ideas?"Let criminals out. Let illegals in. Let boys in the girls bathrooms. Condemn police officers. Abort babies. Pervert the children. Condemn Christians. Accept barbarity in the name of Islam. Overtax the hard working people. Coddle the lazy. That's the liberal way." -from a posting on "Yahoo"Comment

Why ask to be proned out while admitting you are illegally transporting a concealed weapon?So-

Just put it on the seat next to you with the mag in sight and go on your way, at least then it is not concealed.NRA Life Member

That's why I am asking.
Is this the way to go?
I would still be illegal because it is not locked, correct?"Let criminals out. Let illegals in. Let boys in the girls bathrooms. Condemn police officers. Abort babies. Pervert the children. Condemn Christians. Accept barbarity in the name of Islam. Overtax the hard working people. Coddle the lazy. That's the liberal way." -from a posting on "Yahoo"Comment
