non-sworn officer and off roster hand guns ?s

Can a non-sworn Correctional Booking Officer/Correctional Technician who works for
the local Sheriff's Department @ the Jail, buy off roster hand guns. I'm looking to have a family member who works for the Sheriff's Department buy and transfer an AR15 pistol lower for me
to build it myself, the way I want it.

    Thanks for the help Van

The roster only exempts sworn peace officers. Most (but not all) correctional officers do not qualify.

Sounds a whole lot like a straw purchase. Besides, there is no law that says you can't buy an "AR" type pistol yourself. It just has to have a mod making it a single shot pistol and it's yours.

          off roster

It sure does I just looked up the law. The way people talk about it on the forums they make it sound legal.
I guess I will have to just buy a complete pistol and not build it.
          thanks van
