    chp uniforms

perhaps i'm just slow - is chp transitioning from the standard tan uniforms to blue bdu-type uniforms? or perhaps this is just optional for summer/comfort. a friend also mentioned that it would be more economical as they wouldn't require dry cleaning either.

No.... Scale whales/Commercial Enforcement wear the blue jump suits. Crawling around trucks would destroy the tan's daily.

CHP "Utility" uniform is also used in bad weather (rain), in conjunction with hi-vis rain gear. K9 guys may have them as well. The "cold weather" uniform is similar, as well.

100% of the CHP guys I see working, including motors, in the Marin and Santa Rosa areas have been sporting the blue tacticals for almost two weeks now. I thought initially that perhaps they were wearing them on standby for a verdict in the BART PD shooting trial in case Oakland went totally upside down and a division wide 11-99 was issued.

yeah, off and on for several months, i've seen some central valley patrol officers wearing them. i was more curious than anything else. i'd be fairly surprised to see them phase out the tans altogether as they'd still need something a bit more formal for particular occassions/events.

Even if they went totally tactical for the field, I'd have to believe the basic and dress silver tans would still be authorized.

Maybe it's a division by division thing, or a pilot project?

Could be. They could be on a regional alert for that type of thing.

I very rarely see "normal" Chippies in utilities in So Cal, unless the weather is bad.

Likewise in the south bay yesterday. Saw about 4 chippies from Menlo Park to San Jose. All of them were in blues, including motors.

They were wearing them due to the anticipated riots in Oakland.

Yup you're correct. Blues are butt kickin' name takin' uniforms, (wearing $150 wool pants in a riot is just a bad idea. Especially when you have to pay for them).

Also worn by scales etc for the same reason.

                    Tans are here to stay.
