Yes, but they may have a hard time finding someone that will. I believe most places will just stop shipping to CA. Too much hassle to verify LEO status. It's not like there is a huge ammo surplus anyway.

Most of my LEO friends buy through their work anyway. Better pricing (my LASD friend gets Winchester Ranger hollowpoints for cheaper than I can get FMJ white box at walmart)

Yes there is a peace officer exemption in AB 962 as it was signed and enrolled, however, I would hazard a guess that a lot of the out of state / on line retailers will not really give two hoots about a LEO exemption and will only ship to an FFL post 2/1/2011. It would be far more costly for the retailer to be verifying who is and is not eligible than it would be to simply not sell and unlike government, retailers are in business to make money, not to spend it on California's bureaucratic nonsense.

I could be wrong, but I am betting for the most part that I am not.

IIRC there was mention in another thread from one of the LASD guys that the department wasn't reselling ammo to them any longer due to excise taxation issues. It's one thing to issue / provide ammo, and it's something else for the agency to sell it.

Not a lawyer, just a former LEO proud to have served.

Americans have the right and advantage of being armed - unlike the citizens of other countries whose governments are afraid to trust the people with arms. -- James Madison

That is correct about LASD. They will allow active and retired to purchase up to 2 50 round boxes of the duty ammo (9mm/.45cal) but that is it. This went into effect on Jan 1. Buying large amounts of the training and duty ammo is no longer permitted.

That's a bummer, I was hoping that I can score some off of my LASD buddy. I'll have to give my Ventura County Sheriff buddy a ring. I wonder if they have the same rules. This whole thing is a mess. I gave $100 toward Calguns in hopes they will go after it when it make sense to do so.
