Competition Firearms - Hi Capacity Questions

    Hello all,

I am an IPSC/USPSA competition shooter and currently run Limited 10 and Production classes. this in part due to the fact I can only legally use 10rd magazines in my firearms. Which leads me to my reason for posting.

I have a sincere interest in participating in Limited and Open classes which by de-facto necessity require Hi-Cap and super Hi-Cap magazines. I know there are no legal provisions for me to import or buy one of these guns from a vendor locally or out of state but am wondering if...

    1. Are there any exceptions for regular citizens i.e(Non-military or Law Enforcement) to buy currently banned items?

    2. Alternatively, is it legal to buy one already in California new or used, that may have been a Pre-Ban firearm and or Pre-ban magazine? It seems this might be legal but can't confirm it.

In any case, I plan to stay legal but would like to advance in my chosen sport, and with so many gray areas I figured I'd ask. Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks guys!

You cannot buy, sell, transfer or import high capacity magazines. If you have them in possession already, preban, you are okay to use them. You can buy parts to repair the ones you already own. LEO's are exempted and can buy the high cap magazine.
