Looks like San Mateo S.O. will offer all San Carlos officers jobs.

Another city wanting free CHP traffic control. Unless they contract SMSO to do all police work. Ya, I didnt read the link.

If it is an incorporated city they don't get free CHP services. They have to contract with SMSO or CHP. No free lunch. If they were unincorporated, then CHP would handle their traffic.

Our department has 40+ contract cities, and they all have to pay for traffic enforcement/investigative services

We're seeing, I think, the first true wave of what I suspect will be a growing flood of cities that are broke looking to consolidate and outsource as much of their functions as they can. Cities and counties are laying off their custodial staffs and hiring janitorial service contractors at huge savings, as one example.

The argument for a JPA, where it makes sense to do so, is very sound. Twin Cities Police Authority has been exceptionally successful since it was launched in 1980 by the cities of Corte Madera and Larkspur in Marin County. County wide and regional dispatching JPA are another example of potential.
