    CHP Officer Killed near Templeton

    Preliminary Information

    June 27, 2010 About 1830 hours

Templeton Area Officer Brett Oswald, ID 13164, was struck by a passing motorist. Officer Oswald was out of his vehicle completing a vehicle storage at the scene of a collision on Spanish Camp Road at S. River Road. Officer Oswald was transported to the hospital via air, once at the hospital the hospital staff worked on Officer Oswald extensively but he succumbed to his injuries. His family is currently at the hospital.

I believe there the responsible party is under arrest.

2 CHP officers killed in two separate areas of the state in one day. Very tragic times for CHP. Lost 5 officers in 2 months, the last 2 less than 24 hrs apart.

A reminder for all officers to watch their backs out there.

Bummer. Three in a month. I sand corrected - 5 is way weird.

        Pray for the families.

This is just horrible to hear. Enough is enough.

I can see a statewide crackdown coming on anything moving. Something is in the water for sure.

The California Highway Patrol has identified the officer who was hit and killed in Paso Robles.

The CHP says Officer Brett Oswald, 47, was responding to an abandoned vehicle in the middle of South River Road in Paso Robles Sunday night when he was hit by another car. Officers say a 22-year-old Atascadero woman, who has not been identified, was speeding Northbound on River Road, when she crossed the double yellow lines, hitting the driver's door of the patrol car, which then hit Officer Oswald.

The CHP says Oswald died at the hospital from his injuries. The 22-year-old woman suffered minor injuries. Officers say so far, no arrests have been made.

                  Absolutely tragic.
Working a TC is absolutely the most dangerous thing to do. You have to keep your head on a swivel all of the time.
As a one time firefighter I have worked many TC scenes and always blocked traffic with our apparatus. The LEO's always appreciated this as well and I know we prevented fatalities doing so.
People do really stupid crap and not paying attention to their driving is the dumbest.
May God be with his family at this sad and tragic day and the days to come.

Rest in peace our fallen brethren. Prayers to his family, coworkers and friends.

Sadly, this is another vivid and tragic example of driving HUA. Godspeed brother.

RIP Sir. I know that area very well, family lives close by, the speed limit is 45 but it is not safe to go that fast with deer and the narrowness of the rolling road. That is usually SO territory, several miles from the freeway.
