    PC 832 class

For my work, I'm required to take the pc 832 arrest class (not firearms). I live in orange county and every single community college I find is no longer offering the course. The only place that has it is Rio Hondo in Whittier. Does anyone know of a closer place that has the class?

On a side note, anyone who has taken it have any tips or pointers?

It's been awhile seen I took PC832 arrest. I believe the majority of it is classwork, then there is some restraint techniques/handcuffing, but nothing too difficult.

Irvine Valley College has a class that starts in the fall. (AJ250). You don't have to take the firearms portion if not required.

Take a look at this link for topics covered:
State of California Commission on Peace Officer Standards & Training

There's a 100 question, multiple choice POST exam at the end. Also, some practical tests for control techniques and cuffing.

Consider taking the firearms course on your own after completing the Arrest & Control. That will get you HSC exemption.

Do you need the law enforcement 832 course or the security guard course? Two very different animals. If you going to work as a security guard you need to get that specific training & credentials.

I agree. If you have to take the PC 832 Arrest portion, you should also take the PC 832 Firearms just because of the HSC exemption. If you were able to get a CCW, you might even be able to use that training instead of having to take a CCW specific course...

Depends upon who your employer is.

7582.2. This chapter does not apply to the following:
                (b) An officer or employee of the United States of America, or of
this state or a political subdivision thereof, while the officer or
employee is engaged in the performance of his or her official duties
Some of those positions require PC 832 training as they involve exercise of certain aspects of Peace Officer powers, or the training is required by statute.

                  Exactly why I asked.

I already have a HSC so I don't need to take the firearms portion just for that. Its for a park ranger job, not a security guard job so I need the PC 832 arrest portion. I already saw the IVC one but i need one that has it all in one week. I need the cert sooner than December.....

When Module III started including PC832, a lot of places scaled back or stopped offering PC832 as a separate course. With the additional criteria, your choices are even more limited. You may have to attend a course that is not within commuting distance and use temporary housing.

HSC is good for 5 years. 832 Firearms is life or if the law changes. Also, no HG safety demo with the exemption.

The only place is Rio who is doing it all in one full week. The next one is in july and hopefully Ill see you there. If you haven't called and reserved a spot, better do so now; before it gets filled.

I took the class back in 08 at Rio Hondo. Its a week long.

Its an easy test. Hard to stay awake.

The class is taught by some of the college professors/academy instructors.
