    A glimpse of the future?

Drug gangs have largely overrun Jamaica, among other places. Between situations like this and Northern Mexico, and knowing that some parts of our larger urban areas can be like war zones at times, it gives LEO types pause to consider the "could be's".

We've seen the gangs in our own state and nation become increasingly brazen over time. Is this our future? Knowing, of course, that there will always be some in government who renew the call to ban firearm ownership even though there is a near total prohibition in Jamaica and gun rights groups there have long been crying for relaxation of the laws.

And I crossed Jamaica off my vacation destination list a long, long time ago for exactly these reasons.

Not a lawyer, just a former LEO proud to have served.

Americans have the right and advantage of being armed - unlike the citizens of other countries whose governments are afraid to trust the people with arms. -- James Madison

Yeah, and its not always our own government. Mexican President Felipe Calderon criticizing American gun laws http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BioYQbMJjo.
Maybe we should ban all guns and be like Mexico, look how great that's working out... Its really sad when foreign politicians pull more weight in America than the American people...

Wow, I didn't know Jamaica was like that. The gangs in my area are running drugs and guns but it appears to be done very discreetly. We know guns are switching hands and being used in crimes but so far no assaults against cops. The most current incidents involving armed gangmembers and police (in my area) resulted in immediate surrender or the gangmember hiding the weapon away from his person prior to police contact.

I will say that I beleive US Law Enforcement is sadly lacking in training and equipment to deal with multiple subjects that are heavily armed like the Jamaica incident. I would love to have more offensive weapons training.

I think it's sad we don't do more anti-terrorist training. It was just last year that I had my first training shoot involving a suicide bomber. That's 8 years after September 11! LE is the first line of defense against homeland terror we should be trained as such.
