Kel-Tec PF9 as BUG

Hello All,

I was looking at the Kel-Tec PF9 as a bug.

I have'nt shot one yet but plan on doing so.

If any of you have one or have shot one I would love to hear what you think.

I like mine! Kind of 'snappy' with higher loads, but the supported chamber will tolerate +P rounds all day, and +P+ on occasion.

Alot of the guys I work with are buying the Ruger LCP for a bug. But then again its not a 9mm.

A lot of guys I work with are doing the same thing, but I think I would like a 9mm over the 380. The LCPs, it seems, are everywhere.....haven't seen these Keltecs around though.

I just joined the LCP crowd, after carrying a J-frame as a BUG. Sure it's not 9mm, or .40 but at the intended range of deploying a bug I think shot placement is just as critical as caliber. I certainly wouldn't want a .380 as a primary duty weapon, but for contact shots I'm comfortable in the ability to stop a threat.

I've been to plenty of homicides where someone was shot with a 25. I've taken statements from people shot with 45s. Carry what you are comfortable with, and place the shots where they will stop the threat.

The PF9 is a good concealed gun as long as you get used to firing it with the long trigger pull and a long trigger reset. A 9 will always give you more stopping power than a 380 but anything is better than nothing. Not to mention how much easier it is to get 9mm ammo vs 380 (especially in hollow point). PF9 is very small. A few guys I have worked with didn't like the LCP and got rid of them, but a couple will swear by them. I would find someone and try them first. If you go down south you can get them at Pro Force for around $269 (LCP - at least that is what a couple of my friends paid). Everyone is a little diffrent.

Thanks for the good info. I am still trying to find someone that I know who has but they are hard to find up here.

I have a PF9 and an LCP. I carry the LCP as a BUG. I carry the PF9 concealed for off-duty. The PF9 doesn't fit in my pocket (front pant) as well as the LCP and is harder to draw.

I forgot to tell you to get the hard chrome finish if you choose the PF9. My LCP blue finish is holding up well and doesn't rust easily. I had to send my PF9 slide out to get hard chromed because it would rust through the original finish quickly. It seemed like I had to clean it every other day.
