I'm not saying Crimson Trace doesn't make a good product, but there is always the option of failure due to any number of reason. You could have dead batteries, the laser breaks, whatever. In the 12 years I've carried a gun with night sights, I've never had a failure.

The other issue is that unless you always shoot with the laser, you may revert to normal habits in a stressful encounter. You may naturally try to aim the gun by sights, and completely ignore or forget about the laser.

I do however like the ability to aim the gun with a laser in off angle shooting when you can't align your sights, like the videos where they shoot from behind cover. I think the laser would be a great supplement, but from my personal experience with low light firearm usage, I prefer night sights and a light for primary targeting.

I use a CT Laser on my back up and off duty handgun, a Glock Model 27 .40 caliber. I don't depend on it but it works well.....

I use one on my backup S&W 442 because I have a hard time indexing the frontsight and it helps me get a sight picture faster.

The only people at my department that use them that I know of are guys that still carry the Beretta 92. They use them since it is a pain in the butt to have nightsights put on.

RE: night sights, I've had good experiences dealing directly with Trijicon. IIRC, send in your slide and turn around is only a week or two (non-expedited). Pricing is good and the tritium they use is also very good.
