    New AZ Immigration Law

Ok so some people are all wound up over this law. Its just restates the laws that already exist?
So when you stop a car for speeding you ask for the drivers license and registration and proof insurance. So he has no license?
    No insurance?
    No registration?
    You arrest him right?
If he is an illegal alien now what happens?

America is my home. All my fellow American citizens are my brothers and sisters. Even the one's I don't agree with. The problem with Illegal aliens is they are like a stranger who walks into your home and says "I think I'll live with you now." They don't ask permission they don't follow any rules. They just barge in and start acting like they are the victims because you want them to leave and go back to their country.

Illegals are nothing more than foreign nationals (citizens of another country) who have illegally come to the US. Not only did they break the law coming here, but most if not all who then get jobs also violate the law when they use someone else's social security number to gain employment.

The madness must stop. Arizona was perfectly within their rights to enact this legislation. After all the federal government has done nothing to stem the flow of illegals into the US, or to protect citizens from the violence committed by illegals.

Nothing in this law is about "race". It's all about enforcing immigration laws which the federal government has failed to do.

We should support the law makers and the legal citizens of Arizona by vacationing there instead of spending one dime in Mexico.
    Poke'm with a stick!

It's not about race... because I'm sure you'll check for Caucasian European illegal immigrants etc. Then again what do you expect, it's Arizona... they don't even want to recognize MLK day.

      To specify:

Police are required to stop anyone if they have reasonable suspicion that the person is an illegal immigrant (read: not white). They then demand to see papers etc. People who have LEGALLY immigrated must always carry their papers on them, or they will be violating the law. It also creates a right for private citizens to sue individual LEO's who they believe are not enforcing this law. Xenophobes rejoice!

In the city where I worked, If I stopped someone with no license, insurance, didn't speak English etc. our policy was just to cite and release at the scene. I carried a small ink pad and I would get the right thumb print of the driver before releasing them.

Usually the illegals would just smile at me up to the time of getting the thumb print and would get Squirrelly with me when getting it, since they knew the could be identified by the print.

The reason we didn't arrest them was because our Sheriff's Office would not accept nor book illegals for just Immigration holds, even though the person admitted to me they were in the Country illegally.

It was very frustrating to us who wanted to enforce the law, but didn't get cooperation within the system.

I cited many illegals for driving and would use their X-Ray number(a number given to them by DMV to identify them as being cited in the past)with no Drivers License ever issued. I would make them park the car and walk away. If they came back and drove the car, we could then arrest them(and did a few times), but we didn't have time to sit and watch the car.

Within the past couple of months the Sonoma County Sheriff's Department enacted a policy that all bookings received in the jail would be automatically forwarded to ICE for immigration status check. When they live scan the prints the system does a routing to ICE. The department has taken some serious heat from the local do-gooders, but with a good sized chunk of all crime, and particularly violent crime, being perpetrated by illegal immigrants, it is a program that makes sense.

In SoCo, if the arrestee gets booked, he gets checked. If there is a hit, he is going to stay in the can on an immigration hold until that gets cleared. When someone who was cited and released on a misdemeanor in the field gets live scanned after his arraignment (assuming he actually shows up) and a hit comes back, dude is going to sit in jail in the immigration hold.

They've detained a number of recent felony suspects on immigration holds under this program.... and that's a win, if you ask me.

pretty much... anyone that's 12500(a) VC, is cited and released.. depending if they have priors or not, we take their car for 22651(p) VC, or if they have multiple priors, 30 day for 14.6

They know they drill.. they'll give you fake names and everything to avoid their 30 day impound. oh well

I don't know why it is so hard to enforce the law.

We have the laws of the land, illegal immigration=breaking the law=criminal. Illegal immigrants are criminals in strict sence. Why are we not enforcing the law? It doesn't matter the illegal aliens are Mexicans, Brits, Chinese or whatever.

IMHO the problem with this law is that indirectly targets a specific race, based off of AZ's logistic/location and the demographics of the involved population. The SHTF when AZ LEO arrest a US Citizen or legal immigrant based upon this law.

You might want to actually read the law before you spout this garbage.

The real way to deal with this is to severely penalize those folks who employ illegals, not focus on individuals on the street.

OTOH, the Feds are certainly not holding up their end of the bargain and keeping our borders secure.

Wrong, There is no requirement in the law for officers to STOP anyone based SOLELY on the suspicion that the person is an illegal alien. None what so ever.

The contact must originate out of another cause, such as a traffic stop for a vehicle code violation or other type of violation where officers detain people.

Regarding "People who have LEGALLY immigrated" being required to carry "papers". I guess you do not realize that this is already a requirement under current federal law?? This applies to holders of "green cards and visas". As well as other type of temporary "guests" to our country.

The point is, if the law does not say anything about a persons "race". Then why do you even bring it up?

It's because race is what you are more concerned with instead of sending the law breaking illegal aliens who trespass in our country back to their own country.

I have no problems with sending illegals back to their own country... my parents did it the legal way and they both went to grad school here and are now citizens.

Section B on the first page says any "lawful contact" which (please correct me if I'm wrong) is not limited to traffic stops/violations.

Unless I interpreted the above incorrectly, this will likely result in less than subtle racial profiling. If I'm wrong, and it's just procedural after a stop then I retract my statements.
