Bay Area Top Cop Supports Open Carry Ban

Sometimes the law defends plunder and participates in it. Sometimes the law places the whole apparatus of judges, police, prisons and gendarmes at the service of the plunderers, and treats the victim -- when he defends himself -- as a criminal. Bastiat

In that town it could be a career in and of itself just trying to check who is a citizen and can open carry and who can't. And with the drug issue and the crime rate there would be mass retirements on the police force and I could not blame them. I am not saying that the right to carry in San Francisco should be infringed upon but the cops and the people are going to have to come up with a quick effective identifcation process to weed out those who are legally not allowed to do so such as felons, etc. You could not pay me enough money to tackle that job. And I like big paying jobs as much as the next guy.

Once you get above the rank of Lt., it gets about 98% politics... lots of departments have anti-gun chiefs/sheriffs and a majority pro-gun force.

Agreed. Once you get above LT you are no longer a member of the Police Officers union you are upper management.

It's not really a surprise to me. CLEO is a political job, first and foremost no matter the size of the agency. The CLEO is going to blow in whatever direction the political wind in town happens to blow and the Emoryville council is listening inently to LCAV as relates to proposed anti-gun ordinances.

Open Carry scares the heck out of administrators. This is no surprise.

Ever since I was a cop I've been sick and tired of hearing Chiefs of Police act like they represent the interests and feelings of their troops. Nobody elected the Chiefs I worked for. And some of their ideas were really, well, pretty stupid and the opposite of what the line officers thought.

                SFPD Chief? So what...

That's it, with a Chief being appointed no telling what you'll get...

If gets worse, LA County's Sheriff wants to make all MTA trains and buses and stops/stations gun free zones like schools.

To be honest its getting worse up here too. In some counties the CLEO will not sign off your class 2 form 4 if you want a silencer or SBR. Some are getting around it but its moving north as well.

It was interesting there was a debate on another forum on where you can carry your handgun with your CWP. It was over if you can carry into a US Post Office and it came down to you can. There was a bunch of in between the lines but I was so shocked having lived in San Diego and Hawaii my entire life/career. I learned very early that some places you just do not carry.

I'm trying to grapple with why this was even posted here in THIS forum??!!.......Is this supposed to be OUR fault?? Is the OP trying to make a point about the, at times contentious UOC/LE relationship??

                            I don't get it........What am I missing??
