    question for LEOs

Thank you in advance to all who reply.

I am a 22 year old student. My community college doesn't have dorms, so I live in an apartment. When i Transfer to a university I will most likely be staying in a dorm.

To my understanding it is illegal to have firearms on any CA school managed property.

Are there places i can pay to store my rifle and handgun while I'm living on campus where i can access them and return them for range visits. PS, intra-familial transfers are out of the question, my family does not want firearms in their personal home

    Again thank you in advance.

If you're transferring, why aren't you getting an off campus apartment? I mean, I guess I understand the social aspect of living in a dorm, but I don't know. I mean... You're 22. Do you want to live with people a few years younger than you anyway?

If you go the public storage route, get a VERY good safe. Guns grow legs and walk out of public storage very easily. You may check with some firearms dealers in the area and see if they will rent you storage for the guns. The campus police may have information about where to store your guns.

On a side note, will you be saving that much money by moving into the dorms? I remember I actually saved a little money by moving out of the dorms. An apartment near campus may be your best bet.

When I lived in a dorm, I stored my firearms at the University PD. That was the policy and they were very cool about it. I liked living in my cheap ghetto apartment better. It was more quiet and I had my own room...Waking up twice to a drunk roommate peeing in his dresser was enough for me to give up on dorm life.

Some ranges have storage lockers you can rent. In Oceanside, Iron Sights has them. I don't know of any others.

I'd wouldn't contact campus police to let them know you have a gun assuming you're going to school in prk. You'd be on their list.

Checkout some of the local gun dealers, buy some stuff from them if they help you out with since it would be a liability for them. You could also check out some of the ranges nearby you.

Nice to see a college man who shoots!

Most, if not all, public storage places have strict rules against storing firearms and munittions on their premises. A round or two of loose ammo can end up being enough PC for a hazmat crew or bomb squad to conduct a search of the facilities. Yes, it has happened. Anyway, if you go this route, be extemely careful to adhere to the facilities rules or face the cosequneces if you get caught breaking them.

When I lived in the dorms on a state college campus, I stored my firearms at "Public Safety".

thank you for all who replied. I want to stay %100 within the law and all company policies.

so public storage may not be an option. If the money isn't a bad deal i will be in an apartment.

I know where you're planning to go and I wouldn't contact campus PD, definitely be raising a redflag. Your problem would be solved by living at an off campus apt, it really is cheaper (usually) and save you some trouble. If you must be on campus dorm, try contacting the local PD (not campus PD) and see if they have any suggestions. CSA is right on public storage so do your research.

Whatever you do, get a good safe and hopefully you can bolt it down. I know a local guy that sells them - good prices. PM me if you need any info.

No, a local gunshop might. Some ranges rent lockers where people store firearms. Or, join a local private club, get to know the members and see if someone will let you use a bit of space in their safe. Hell, you might even find a local calgunner who you trust, with extra room in a safe.

is that even legal, to give a gun to an individual for storage who did not dros the weapon. i understand i can rent space from a company. But isn't lending to an individual a crime.

No, loaning a gun (RAWs and 50BMG rifles excluded) to an individual is not a crime. It can be done for up to 30 days and not on a regular bais. I'm not talking about "loaning" a firearm to someone though. I'm talking about you storing your gun in a safe and secure manner in someone else's safe.
