Last week a friend of mine was arrested on a variety of charges arising from a mental disorder. We had noticed it manifesting over the past month. He was released today to a mental health facility and checked himself out immediately. I there a way to go about having him admitted again provided we can find him. He's a danger to others and himself. He is definitely not himself and fluctuating between violent and extreme hopefulness.

Just curious? if he was admitted to a facility, was it on his own and not ordered?NRA Life Member

He was escorted and checked in by the sheriff after being released from custody. As far as gut feeling, he has never posed a violent threat to others as long as I have known him until recently. He is confused and as far as catatonic at times. He charged police after they were called for the incident last week, began referring to himself "THE" devil. I'm sure we could articulate the threat if needed. We are unable to obtain any clinic information as it is privileged and not available without a release according to the front desk.Comment

You didn't say his age, but IIRC from my college psych classes, schizophrenia generally strikes young adults. Perhaps this is what he has. Obviously I'm not a Psychologist (I really tried, but couldn't handle the stat classes
), but a real one would know.
You said he checked himself out immediately. I presume then it was a voluntary commitment by him, since a 5150 written by the leo would have meant a 72hr. hold.
Good luck.Comment
