One question they gave me when I got hired was as follows....
"If you could use just one word to describe yourself, what would that word be"?
That question caught me totally off guard because non of the LEOs I had done ride-a-longs with or had spoken with before the interview ever mentioned that question. It seemed like I sat there for an hour while I was thinking about the answer but it was only a few seconds before I was able to give my answer. The satisfaction of a job well done is to be the one who has done it

No problem man....sorry for the off topic rant....Just started typing and that came out....I will see if I have any other emails like that. I saved ALL of them, ever since I started the 1st app with OCSD in 06!...Thats right bro....took me 3 years to become a cop! Good things take time!"Always do right. If it takes three years that shows your factor in interest and motivation!Comment

Don't forget the end "Do you have anything to add?" Always sell yourself at the end! Talk about studying the structure of the city/county govt, been on ride alongs, talked to officers, looked into benefits offered (3% @ 50, medical, dental & etc), would like to raise a family in the area (housing), talked to real estate people, how the schools are rated for kids & community type issues.
And wear a suit!!Comment

I can't emphasize enough how important it is to have a great closing. At one point I lost out on a specialty assignment in my department over having a weak "anything to add". I was friends with two of the oral board members, and got the WTF-were-you-thinking phone call later. Having sat on both sides of the oral board table, a closing statement can make or break a candidate. Write it out ahead of time, and memorize it. This is the one aspect of the interview where you control everything.Don't forget the end "Do you have anything to add?" Always sell yourself at the end! Not only wear a suit, but wear a suit whenever you have to go to the prospective agency. Even if it's just to pick up or drop off a form. It can make a huge difference. I was asked to drop off some type of simple form during my background, and wore a suit. I was in and out of the office in less than a minute, but the Lieutenant in charge of backgrounds saw me, and came out of his office. He asked why I was wearing a suit, and I told him I was just dropping off a form. Little things can go a long way to make you stand out from the crowd.Comment

Do doubt about the suit, and thanks for reminding me about the closing statement.Comment

That is true! forgot about that! I ended with one of my quotes from M. Twain below....They seem to like it.I can't emphasize enough how important it is to have a great closing.
