With the emphasis on spelling and grammar (and rightfully so) I can see a very bleak future for law enforcement recruiting in less than 10 years or so. Either various departments and agencies will have to offer some sort of primer on the subject during training or will have to lower their standards in this regard, however that might lead to a lower success rate in prosecutions if reports say things like:

"Wen I got to tha house I saw the suspekt klimeing out ov tha bedroom windoe..."

    and

"Tha suspekt toeld me sumthin liek he did steel tha car"

Forgot to add in that MEMORY plays a big part in police work, something else you will find sorely lacking in today's up and coming generations.

Well, I'm currently a Biology major and I screwed myself over in terms of GPA the first quarter haha. Nice guy, but full time student.

And for ride alongs, do I just call up the department and schedule one?

Yep, that all you have to do. Tell them you would like to go on a ride along and they will generally transfer you to the person who handles it or advise you to come to the station.

It would be good to go on at least several and if you have different depts. close by, go with all of them. You generally will be asked on the oral if you have gone on any and it show the board your desire/interest if you can let them know you have gone on more than one and with different depts.

They may ask why a different one than the one you are testing for, but you can reply to learn as much as you can.

Thanks for the info, retired. I just called the department I'm on eligibility list for (#4, hehe), and left a voicemail to schedule a ridealong. This works out perfectly since I'm on Spring Break right now.
