Boker Jim Wagner RBB Knife Question

How's it going everybody?

As this is my first post on Calguns (love the forum) I had a question for LEO's preferably in the Los Angeles / San Fernando Valley areas.

I recently purchased a Boker Jim Wagner Reality Based Blade model bo054 with a non working locking button release and was wondering if this blade was legal for carry on my person?

I'm not in LA, but if it is the knife I am thinking of, you may run into trouble with it being considered a "gravity knife". Does your knife release the blade when you push the button on the left side? I'm not sure what you meant by the locking device was disabled.

I have the same or similar knife (I can't remember my model number), and if you tighten up the blade pivot screw you can prevent the knife from opening like a "gravity knife". There may be specific municipal ordinances down there, but as far as CA law goes, just tighten up the screw a little bit, and you will be fine.

EDIT: After looking at the picture, I have the same knife. I really like it.

All depends where you are? 3.25-in blades are not allowed at schools IIRC and as alex00 stated, some muni codes may prevent carry of it in certain cities.

Thanks Guy's! Although further clarification from LEO's from the Sherman Oaks area would be great.

The button is non-automatic (no spring inside). When you engage the button you can manually swing the knife open with force. The slide lock when engaged applies pressure to the blade and doesn't let it open easily (it doesn't really lock) The blade itself I believe is 3.25-in in length, the actual cutting length is 3-in, and I have already tightened the screws to prevent the weight of the blade from dropping on its own.

What a coincidence...I've ordered the same exact knife and am currently waiting for it as it is was backordered by LA Police Gear. But I digress. I, too, was concerned about the legality of this knife since it had the locking button and there was no thumb stud to open the blade. I talked to an officer at the Irvine Police Department before I placed my order, and I described to him exactly how the knife worked. He told me that this knife is perfectly legal as the button is merely the locking mechanism for the blade. As long as the button does not release the blade into the open position via a spring, then it is good to go. From what the Customer Service rep at LA Police Gear told me, you still have to manually lock the blade into the open position. FWIW, I have seen videos on YouTube of guys that have this exact knife, but it is the automatic variety (springs open into the locked position). Seeing these videos is what initially made me wary of the legality of this knife in California. I guess Boker makes two versions?

The automatic is no different than the non-auto version. If you take the knife apart, you will see the recess for the spring, and the hole in the blade. The non-auto can be converted with a $.50 spring if you ever move to a state that allows autos.

@lehn20 I am not too concerned about the designer being a fraud, The manufacturer is more reputable anyhow. IMHO this blade is one of the finest tantos around with or without serration's, I never really liked tanto blades until I saw this knife.
