What shotguns do you use as LEO?

I'm looking to buy a shot gun soon and I have plans on becoming a LEO in the next year. I would like to buy one I can use for Home defense and Tactical uses. What do you use at your dept?

the one I use at work has a regular stock, no pistol grip, w/ speed feed fore-end. 4+1

the one I have at home is exactly like the lower one in the picture.. pistol grip, collapsible stock, speedfeed fore-end. I believe it's 7+1 (or maybe 8+1) I forget.

I've used 870's, Mossberg 500 and Remington 11-87. I've known a couple of departments that have issued Bennelli semi-autos as well.

For everyday, ride around in the police car, deploy it when you need it, the standard stock (wood or synthetic) is still the best bet. Keeping is simple always has a great deal of merit for any gun you are going to have to fight with. Collapsible and folding stocks are cool and all, and they make sense in some roles and in some vehicles.

If you have to have a pistol gripped stock, I recommend the Speedfeed or Choate fixed (non-collapsible) models.

when i came on, most of them were old Wingmasters. over time they changed over to their Police model with the plastic furniture and finally added slings.

my personally owned patrol shotgun was a 870 Police from Seattle PD which i had re-furbished and added a folding stock and sling. i hated that folding stock, but it was the only way to smoothly get it out of the car over the "equipment stack"

if i'd had the option, i would have used a Mossberg 500/590...for the better safety location; they only allowed pump actions

I remember the old Ithaca's. They were rock solid and I used one for the first 20 years I was on the job. The Remingtons and Bennelis are replacing them!
