This happens...more then one would expect.

The Riverside County Sheriff was told to retire by the DA or he was going to end up like the OCSD Sheriff Mike Carona. He retired and is now on the Parole Board. Don't ask me how I know

One of the LA news stations interviewed the Guy whose house was in front of the fire hydrant that was hit. They got nice photos of the tire skid marks and the damaged hydrant. No other vehicle involved. Since it was 3AM the home owner heard and saw nothing. Going a couple of miles after a colision like that (with flat tires) does not sound to good for the Chief. While the officers may not had done a sobriety test on him, their visuals should assist the CHP in making their report. No injuries, but Chief on medical leave. Yes I think application for a new Chief are flowing in to Riverside.

Heard on the radio this morning the Chief has retired. I wonder why?

          Party's over so to speak...

Riverside Police Chief Russ Leach stepped
down Thursday just three days after he crashed
a city-owned car under circumstances that have
raised questions about his behavior and his
          department's response.

City Manager Bradley Hudson said Leach's retirement
for "medical reasons" was effective immediately.
He also announced a "sweeping Internal Affairs
investigation" into the Police Department's actions
after the crash, to be overseen by Hudson and
former Riverside County Dist. Atty. Grover Trask.

Leach, who has been chief since 2000, resigned hours
after the Police Department released a report about
his single-car crash that occurred about 3 a.m. Monday.

The report describes a confused Leach, who was
apparently unaware that he had just plowed into
a fire hydrant, hit a light pole and then driven on the
rims of his black Chrysler 300 for three more miles
before the car came to rest.

Mike Carona is now a convicted felon.

So from the press report, did the chief take a medical retirement? Or did he simply resign?
