i had karl hettingers son for an english teacher when i was in jr high. right about the same time he passed away. i love it when criminals try to plead or lay themselves on the parole boards mercy- "yeah i killed a guy in cold blood but iam going to die too so can i get out of prison please?" iam glad that they dont give a damn if the dudes dying or not. he murdered a guy.

Hope he rots in prison. It's amazing the Parole Board got something right.

Good. I never understood the whole compassionate grounds for release being used as much as it is. If I were a thrill or sex killer, probably the first thing I'd do when I got out was reoffend since I would be about to die anyway. I am surprised this doesn't happen more often, but I suppose they must have a decent amount of oversight on the monsters they compassionately release.

To me, a "compassionate release" is when he gets to meet his maker, then gets sent straight to hell.

Powell had shown remorse and is an old man who has served enough time.

No pain that Powell could suffer would be enough for me. I hope he suffers 100 fold from what Officer Hettinger had to endure after that night. Hettinger died at just 59 years old because of what happened in that onion field. Powell will be paroled when they place his cold and lifeless body into the furnace.

words cannot express the anger that this one man brings up in all of us.... Wait not a man but a savage animal that needs to be put down.

the sadest part of all is that this man is proabaly a living legend to the rest of the scum in the prison yard.

Yet, of course, in tv and the movies, they show leos doing that all of the time. I know, I know, it's Hollywood; what else can you expect. My wife is long tired of me yelling at the tv.

They also show police officers chamber a round only after they have seen/heard a threat.

I used to tell my partners to shoot me int he chest if I was taken hostage. I will go down, and the suspect will be exposed for a clear shot. At least I may have a chance, because I would wear a vest.

I brought this up at briefing on Friday. The people in the room looked at me and had no clue what I was talking about. I explained the incident to them and we talked about the "what would you do" scenario. I got some great answers from them and that made me smile. They really do listen to us old Sergeants!!!
