New Holster

Hey all,

I start a reserve position on 2/18. Im not sure what type of holster I want to use for my Glock 22. I will have a light mounted on my firearm.

What type of holster do you have? What would you suggest or avoid?? I have nylon equipment so it will need to match.

I'm a fan of the Safariland ALS holsters.

A common one that I've seen is the 62xx series without the ALS feature.

Ultimately, check to be certain it is approved before purchasing. If you are close to LC Action, Galls, or Adamson, they have demo models to test out.

I went through chief's supply a number of times for gear. Depending on who they still employ, their sales people are great. They know what weapons fit what, and will be very good at getting you the gear you need. The one time it was the wrong item, they sent me an RA right away and took care of everything.

I recommend safariland, either their raptor series, which can be a deathtrap if you doin't practice with it. That said, it is an excellent retention holster. If you need the light mounted option, there are several others that come in the nylon (non glossy/matte) which are level II or IIa. Other than that, depending on what store you go to, they may be alright with you SAFELY trying holsters with your weapon. I wouldn't bet on the second option, it only worked for me in one particular store because the staff there know me fairly well. Plus having a gun in your hand in public is a little frowned upon... just some advice. good luck!

The Safariland ALS is very good gear, but not everyone has approved them. I used the Safariland 070, level three holster for many years and there are none better, IMO. Caveat... I've not tried any holster with a mounted light.

All holsters, retention or otherwise, need extensive practice before they are used on the street. Might consider buying a blue gun and working with whatever holster you choose / are allowed to use.

Thank you for your input. I was actually looking at the 6360 and several of the Deputies use that holster. Looks like Ill be heading to the nearby uni shop.

Huge fan of my ALS Triple retention. I would not by a hooded holster unless it has an additional safety.

I can't tell you how many guys I have seen clearing a stop with the hood down the whole time. One fist fight/grapple and the damn thing is gonna fall out. Plus, if the bad guy grabs for the gun, your good as dead. The thing will slide right out!

This is why I like the ALS feature. The fact that there's a level that auto-locks once the gun is seated. Just in case you hand needs to come up and you don't have a chance to flip the hood back up.

On a side note, the 6377/78 is a good plain clothes ALS holster. A great transition if using the 6360 duty holster.
