I was pursuing a career as an LEO but it seems like that wont be happening for now anyway. I was just wondering what happens to the pre-investigative questionnaire that I filled out? Is it kept on file with the PD I applied with? Could anything I admitted to in there come back to haunt me later?

What happens to my PIQ?

Sometimes. Future applications will ask if you have previously applied at other law enforcement agencies. It is common for a background investigator to go to any previously applied to agencies and pull your application file. It is important that you are consistent with your filling out of questionnaires (i.e. the Personal History Statement, etc.) as BI's will compare them, and inconsistencies and omissions will come up during a discrepancy interview. -
OK, thanks thats kind of what I figured about future employment in LE.
Assuming I never go into a LEO position, does that info just stay within the PD or would it be made known through just a basic criminal background check (like one conducted for a non-LEO job)?Comment

It usually stays in house and will only be reviewed by other Leo agencies on request. Civilian jobs won't look into it unless you are going to get a job that requies a high level of federal clearance. Your application to a law enforcement agency will show forever on your "rap" sheet as an applicant.
This holds true for many civil service type jobs as well as many jobs which require a background check such as a teacher, child care worker, nurse ect.
All your pre hiring info will be kept by the agency you applied to for a long time. So if you ever try and get hired by another agency it will show you previous application when they run your fingerprints. and or do a "RAPS" check on you for any history.Poke'm with a stick!

Thanks for the response. I am pursuing a career that requires a criminal background check, so I assumed all the info I provided to the PD could be a part of that background process.
I dont have anything too awful in there, dont even have a parking ticket, however, (I assume like virtually everyone else) I have somethings in there that I am defiantly not proud of and would prefer to be made known to as few people as possible. I really hope it will not hinder my future employment, but I suppose theres nothing I can do about it now.Comment
