    Speeding Violations

I'm considering applying to become a reserve LEO and I know one of the requirements is that you have a clean driving record. I have 2 speeding violations in the last year that significantly increased my insurance. Because they were both basic violations, would this be an issue? Might be a stupid question, I just don't know if they're talking DUIs and Reckless driving or just basic speeding violations. Thanks

The hiring process is very competitive right now. While it's not an automatic disqualifier, it's not going to help you at all. One more and you're in danger of losing your license for being a 'negligent' operator.

My son was turned down by the Department I work for because he had two 'at fault' accidents and 1 speeding ticket in a three year period and that was before hiring came crashing down with everything else.

I would encourage you to apply if this career is what you want, but be prepared to address the issue. Don't hide ANYTHING and don't get another ticket.

Slow down & drive carefully. Best of luck, Ron

My info may be old, but last I knew you would be okay with two (basic traffic tickets only). You will raise a few eyebrows though. One more with my department would get you DQ'd.

The way things are now(everyone "wants to be a LEO")...Also noting that some..perhaps even most background folks would take two tickets in a relatively short time span for the saammmeee thing as disregard for the "law"..One ticket,ok thats life.Learn from it.Another ticket..What didnt you get the first time? Just playing devils advocate here..Quit getting tickets It will help your odd's immensely!

Yeah, My driving record is one thing that may hurt myself also, but luckily my violations are spread over a longer time period.

Just went through backgrounds with a local sheriff's department. Ive got three violations, but they were from several years ago. Your violations will not help but wont disqualify you either. Be up front with your mistakes, dont lie nor hide them from the investigator, and realize you were wrong and state how you learned from your mistakes. Best of luck to you!
