Looks like I just might be starting my life as an LEO also

    Hey guys,

I am stationed in Pensacola right now. Well, as a volunteer opportunity, I am getting on with the Sheriff's department as a volunteer. I will work in the jail, work in communications, help with paperwork and ride along.

Found out that they are going to offer us tazer training, hand to hand/baton type training, range time with dept issued guns and ammo, and get us some driving training on their closed course. All in all, I think its pretty cool. I always wanted to be a cop, even when I was a kid.

Anyway, it also leads to an academy that is monday through friday, 3pm to 8pm for six months, that leads to being qualified as an LEO in Florida.

I think I found a way to set up my retirement gig, doing something else I love, after I am out of the Navy.

It looks like the training is only about half of what CA POST requires. If it makes you a full time LEO, I guess it is worth. If you decided to come to CA to become an LEO, you may have to attend additional training.

    Best wishes for your endeavor.

the above isnt all encompassing, just the highlights. And, yes, I am very happy. for some reason, I am very service driven, I like to help others, to a degree.

Sworn officers from other states usually only require a 3 week recert. course, just FYI.

                Congratulations!
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!
