    Another LEO fatality

    When I was in Utah on vacation this week, I learned through a TV news that a Salt Lake County deputy, Deputy Fox, was killed on duty early this week.

    The state attorney general visited the state peace offers memorial yesterday, and his voice was cracking when he was talking about the deputy's killing. My heart goes to the family and the agency. Whether you know the LEO's in person or not, learning about their on duty death hurts.

    May God bless the slain deputy, the agency and their families.

    I wish the best for all the LEO's on this forum and pray for their safety.

        The more time I spend in law enforcement, the harder each death becomes.

          In this case, Deputy Fox is a femade deputy. We lost a sister. I should have noted it in my original post. Sorry about that.

              Seeing how LEOs react to losing one of their own, even though they were hundreds of miles away and never known to them, has truly gained my respect for law enforcement officers.

                    A quote from the Deputy Fox' memorial page:

                    "The suspect, who fled the scene in the vehicle, was identified as an illegal alien who had already been deported but had returned to the United States."

                    What is wrong with this statement? It makes me angry. Someone should take responsibility for these kind of things keep happening.

                      The twist in this story is Deputy Fox's older brother was in the second vehicle and had bought drugs from the guy who moments later killed her.

                      The Salt Lake Tribune published a fine tribute to her after covering the candlelight vigil for her on the night she died. Some highlights:

                      ... "She saved my life," said Levi Bettis, 22, who said he turned his life around after Fox arrested him for drug possession and then became his friend.

                      "She got me out of a couple of felonies," Bettis said. "I feel more or less robbed right now and I think the community does, too."

                      ... Woodbury told the crowd that when Sierra ran away last year, Fox never gave up the search even after she went off shift.

                      "She never gave up on anything she loved," Woodbury said.

                      She added that Fox had a special rapport with young people.

                      "We have some outstanding youth in this town and Josie is the reason why."

                      ... Elizabeth Peterson's memory of Fox is typical of how many recalled her on Tuesday: She was more like a "friend and protector" than a cop.

                      "I never saw her without a smile," Peterson added. "It didn't matter if she was on-call or not. She was a special lady."

                      Blair said Fox would drive by her apartment complex and "wave to us and say hi and make sure we were OK."

                      They've need to show that they can think at all;
                      Errors, like straws, upon the surface flow;
