You are not to old. It just depends on the department. Some departments want the younger "hook em and book em" officers, Others want older officer with life experience. When I went to the academy one guy was 50 years young. There is a guy at my current department in his 60's and still going strong.Comment

CHP cuttoff is 35 years old....but most depts seem to understand the advantages to older candidates. If you can get through the process and do the Job....Any Questions about Front Sight memberships or specific information about attending, Feel Free to send me a PM!Comment

There was a 46 year old former pastor in my class that got picked up by a SoCal municipal department after the academy.
Also if you dont get picked up right away try reserve to get your foot in the door. Then try to lateral over to full time.sigpicNRA Life MemberComment

When I went thru the academy, we had a classmate from Inglewood who had been a reserve with them and was not trying to be a full timer. He was 52.
He wasn't able to score the minimum points during one of the physical agility tests taken during the academy, so he was recycled to the next class. He graduated 6 weeks after us and went on to a good career from what I heard.
I was told once, while in foot pursuit of a bad guy, the bad guy hopped a wooden fence in a rear yard. The leo couldn't due to his size (bit overweight), so he ran into the fence and knocked the whole thing down instead.
He caught the bad guy.
