During a traffic stop can a LEO tell if someone owns guns (because they are registered with the DOJ) or has a CCW? Does this info come up through DL or vehicle information? I would appreciate any LE weighing in but particularity those who work in more CCW friendly counties as they'd be more likely to encounter someone with a permit.

I run a scanner and I hear them say 'negative for weapons' when they are heading out to calls. They also pre-run the license plate when they are doing traffic stops (that's what he's doing back there before he approaches you).
For me, I think the big NRA LIFE MEMBER on the back window of the jeep gives it away

Guns are registered to addresses.
From the address of the call, they check to see if any guns are registered there so the arriving officers know to be extra careful.

Hmmm...I doubt it. It's not the way my agency does it, and it's not the way that the agency (possibly the same one???
) that patrols your area does it.
The reason they say negative for weapons is that dispatchers often (to my massive frustration) say "no weapons" when they ask if the bad guy has any guns and the informant says "no". They should be saying "unknown if weapons" or "per inf, no weapons". I treat every call I go to like there is a gun.
I'm lucky if I can get them to type in the plate of a stolen vehicle so I can run it without my radio center asking for my status five times. I'm absolutely amazed if they put the full name of the informant, the phone number or (gasp!) the cross streets into the call. I don't know where you got your info on this, but I'm willing to bet it's false.Comment

I am not even sure if we can run an address for guns. The only way my department knows about weapons is if we go on a call and the person has weapons and we tell them to "flag" the address as weapons being present. The only time we would do that is that if the person is borderline nuts and says something to make us think they would use them against us.Comment

When we go to a call, particularly a disturbance, assault, or domestic violence call, the dispatcher will ask the reporting party about the presence of weapons. This is where the info comes from. There is NO database that tells us this.Comment

In my county, CCW shows up connected to vehicle registration. I was out shooting clay pigeons off of the levee one time (which is totally legal where I was at, and standard practice for the locals) and was approached by a SO after I parked in a restaurant parking lot. Apparently someone had called in my vehicle as someone that was shooting a fifty into the river. The SO came up and asked me if I had been shooting, I said yes, he asked if he could check the firearms, I said sure. On the radio, he ran my license plate and the return was my name, address, and that I am a current CCW holder.
Some places it is connected, though I was always under the belief that it wasn't supposed to be broadcast.
Guess I oughta do some research!Comment
