Im not sure if any agencies allow this or not, but I wanted your opinions on this. Im sure it would definately be an interesting experience.

Why would they not allow it? It is just another day. Get a request in.

      It varies by agency.

Darn, too bad you are not in LA County. I talked to a Commander earlier at HQ and he says they are holding ride-alongs at many Sheriff stations this month and next.

He says with so many people getting laid off recently, you can't imagine how many people have been inquiring about jobs in LE. Sad too he says they won't be accepting that many people into the next scheduled academy. It's going to be fierce. I have a ride-along scheduled in West Hollywood and/or East LA. Should be quite fun if in East LA!!

I highly doubt supervisors will sign off of you doing a ride-along on New Years. They are already on high alert, many on overtime, maxed resources and manpower and with all the crazies out, drunk driving, fights, and celebratory gunfire, I highly doubt you'd get one approved.

I personally don't want a ride-along in my car on a holiday night when I have to work....doesn't mean you won't be allowed to ride.

My buddy is trying to get me a ride along soon. Unfortunately I cant apply for another year, but I am trying to do a few ride alongs and talk to a few officers this year and get some advice.

Yep that's about it too. I remember one New Year I was looking for a guy with a gun in an apartment complex with not cover available. While away from my unit I heard shots fired in the parking area. When I got back to my unit the window had been shot out. Never did find the AH that did it....
