Positive interaction with a LEO today...

Denver, if the officer saw your OLL in the back seat and asked you that question, you should probably let him inspect it or you could be arrested. I would surmise most members would acquiesce.

I agree, I would, no reason not to. It just makes the time pass a little smoother during the stop, quicker to. I also get the impression most would to here.

I am tired of people saying, "it is none of your business" or " I don't have to tell you anything" attitude. Maybe the agencies conducting the stops or check points are stupid in the eyes of those people. Rights have responsibilities following.

Whatever their attitude is, I will still have to do my job within the department policy and the law.

Now, I will admit I did give a lot of disabled parking tickets and it didn't matter if I was working a criminal or traffic car. That was and remains my pet peeve. I sometimes wish the dept. gave me a case of parking cites when I retired.

Same with my other half, especially when it was someone obviously too lazy to park in a regular spot. There's no excuse for abusing diabled parking spaces.

One year, I gave two handicap parking citations at a shopping mall on Christmas eve. Those people were depriving real handicapped people of their parking spaces. I confiscated both placards and sent them back to DMV.

And, two things I never gave a break for are:
1. People throwing cigarette butts out of their window,
2. Cars with smoke from their tail pipes.
That is 100% ticket for me.

Truth be told, I've had WAY more positive experiences (I don't call them encounters) we LEO than negative ones.

I'm curious why you left the cop's name out of your message? You're giving him a compliment, is this something that requires secrecy?

He had you sign something.. so it's not like there isn't a record of him giving a warning.

Speaking of, I've never had a cop have me sign something if they were giving me a warning. They usually just checked my license and told me to stop doing whatever I was doing they didn't like. Then I was on my way.

Do some departments actually keep track of warnings?

I thought it was more respectful to not post the Officer's name in a public form on the internet. Some people really value their privacy. I have had a couple verbal warnings but this was my first written one.

There is a box for Traffic, Loud Party /Noise and Other Violation(s)

The box checked on mine reads:

Traffic
This warning is given to you in an effort to secure your cooperation in better observance of the traffic laws thus helping to prevent traffic accidents.

i had a police officer pull me over the other day, and that was a positive experience. the first thing he told me was "there wasn't anything wrong with your driving" so that made me calm. although he did give me a fix-it for my cracked windshield. I think I'll just kick it out and go safari style now

As an avid motorcyclist commuting daily, thanks for the cigarette butts. I've been struck by a few and had one land in my lap once. Not fun. The amount of ways I could think of at that time to get even is astounding. But I never did.

i have had the same experience that a lot of the LEO here have stated. i've gotten tickets in the past when i argued/begged/complained. the only time i was ever given a warning was when i apologized. he asked what the big hurry was and i said, well, i'm running late for an appointment but i know that's no excuse to break the law. then he said, well, it looks like you know what you did wrong, SLOW DOWN and walked away.

thats why you need the blackhawk hard plastic holster bolted under tail or down the bodywork on the left spar (assuming you have a twin spar frame on your momo) LOL just kidding dont do this.

i ride too, not publicly anymore though, as traffic is CRAZY. i would rather ride through gunfire at the gaza strip than the 15S at 4 pm. i know it feels good to ride but id rather take it to the track and be a lot more safe than have these idiots with their NOTW stickers on their HUGE chevys run me over. and when i do ride theres NO WAY i would ever be close enough to a car to catch a cigarette in my lap. my uncles taught me to ride the street as if the cars were trying to kill me so i keep my distance from everything with more than 2 wheels.

How about tickets for rolling stops, no U-turns, or right turns on red? I almost got hit once when someone did a u-turn at an intersection where there is no u turn allowed. I was turning right on green, and the person completing the illegal uturn nearly caused an accident. People know they shouldn't do it, yet they do anyway.

I have to say that I've deserved every ticket that I've received. They were all very respectful and seemed to appreciate the fact that I understood I was in the wrong and cut me a break because I was not a dick. Most of them should have likely resulted in bad things (I had a very heavy throttle hand and lead foot)

Though I did argue with one guy who was absolutely fishing and in the wrong... I didn't get a ticket because I hadn't broken any laws. He was wrong about the speed limit, the sign was 10ft from where he pulled me over

It seems that like most things in life, mutual respect goes a long ways.
