How many LEO's support Combat weapons training for civi's

    Hi everyone,

I just wanted to get a feel for how LE feels about civilians going to Carbine courses like Magpull, etc. As well as setting up CQB courses on private property with groups of people, rapid fire and all that kind of stuff. Also might as well throw in full blown combat chest rigs, belts, thigh holsters owned by civilians and therefore possibly seen on a traffic stop, etc.

Now I know that most LEO's on Calguns are probably for this, but not all are and some are downright afraid of this from my experience in California anyway. Some may construe this as bad guy training or terrorist activities.

So if one wants to train like this for it's proper purpose how would one safely go about proceeding so as not to make the DHS list. Now keep in mind I am talking about fully legal operations, Cali legal OLL's, etc.

It seems to me that this kind of stuff can be easily misconstrued as terrorist training camps or right wing extremist Randy Weaver stuff.

    So to sum it up:

How do you feel as a LEO or how do your fellow LEO's feel, consensus about this?

How do you think most LEO's in Cali would feel about pulling someone over with all the gear (as long as everything is legal)?

    Thank you

In the US, I believe anyone can go to any training they wanted. Why would anyone think the firearms training a terrorist training? If one goes to an armorer school or gunsmithing school, is it a weapons of mass destruction training?

Why don't you post a poll?
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.

Tis better to have Trolled & lost, Than to never have Trolled, at all.

I think the responses you get will be a reflection of the areas where the officers work...ie; metroplitan vs rural areas.

As long as what they have is legal to possess, I don't necessarily have issue with it. For me, there could be some variables I look at that could change my opinion on the matter but each scenario must be judged on its own merits.

I know some LEO's are afraid of an armed populace due to many different reasons and feel that it is a threat to their safety. This may be due to the fact that they may feel the citizen may get in the way or that "why would they need to learn that when they have us" thus drawing suspicion of that person(s).

And I know some LEO's think that the more good law abiding citizens have the weapons and training they do the safer our society.

And then there are the ones in between.

Just trying to get opinions from the LEO community on this one.

I think the organization teaching the class should take reasonable measures to ensure their students aren't taking flying lessons without learning to land (hint...), but I took classes before I was a cop and I feel that civilians should be able to own (and carry) guns and if they do, they should damn well be trained.

SoCal is right... I'd much rather have civilians who are trained and armed than civilians who are NOT trained yet still armed.

Yes, that makes common sense. Do you guys feel that this is the norm in the force, 50/50, or the exception. I'm guessing the norm in places like Texas and Nevada but maybe more like 50/50 in places like LA or Oakland.

I can't help but think how much safer society would be If every able bodied man, woman and child owned and trained with a firearm and fought along side the police when they needed it. Problem is the "state" feels threatened by this, not because they think there would be more crime, but simply for the fact that for the "state" to truly exist as a "state", requires disarming of it's citizens.

Thank you for your service btw

As far as I can see, most LEO's don't care what kind of training people get.

The way I see it, part of being a responsible firearm owner is learning proper firearms safety and proficiency. Pretty much all the classes I have ever attended have safety as a major focal point. If you ever have the bad luck of having to defend yourself or family, you should be proficient with whatever firearm you have.

I could care less what gear you have for your firearms, as long as you are within the guidelines of the law. But if I were to pull you over, and you are all decked out in camo with every tacticool accessory that you could buy, I'm going to have a few questions for you.

LOL, I didn't mean actually wearing the stuff while you were driving.

Whats the difference between going in the army and learning how to fight and combat maneuvers, and then taking out 12 people with a handgun?? Not only do they get trained, but they use our money to do it.

Heck yeah...self improvement. I've worked urban areas and rural areas. Before I came back to my wonderful high crime urban area, I was assigned to a rural area. Closest backup was roughly 30 minutes....I know some people have it worse but thats about average. The farmers carried and would stop for you...hell, they would get out armed. I loved it.
