registering firearms

I have two questions along the same lines. People always ask me these questions because I am federal and honestly I dont know the answers.

Got two friends, one sold his AR out of state before he moved here because it wasnt CA compliant and someone offered him way to much for it. He bought a used Springfield 1911 off someone who never registered it. A) does he need to register it, living in CA (is it illegal to own unregistered firearms in CA) and B)would he just go to an FFl to do that?

Second friend, owns 2 preban AR's. He bought them knew here in CA before the ban but never registered them. He was asking me how he goes about registering them now and mentioned something about having to have had claimed them after the ban went into effect. He said he did not do that. Any ideas? I personally said their illegal now sell them to me really cheap! That didnt fly.

As far as failing to register the AR's, that door closed, sealed shut, and is no longer available. There is no mechanism to do an after the fact registration. He can not have them in CA. Too bad, but that's the law.

Second friend: If the receivers are not listed, he can remove the "evil" features. SOL if they are listed.

You have a time line for registering guns brought into Ca. from out of state. If you live here there is no requirement to register firearms purchased before the law requiring registration at time of purchase.
The AR's are not legal with any of the banned configurations (see above)
