 Have you inquired or applied to PDs and SOs in the area(s) where you want to relocate? I don't know how other departments handle reserves, but our department has an open application process for reserves. The reserves are paid only when they work, so for all practical purposes, there's no fiscal impact to having reserves, plus this gives the department trained sworn personnel for emergency situations. With that being said, for our department, a reserve applicant will have to go through a 4-6 month hiring process. The last 6 reserves that were hired were officers who retired from the department but wanted to maintain their sworn status and became reserve officers, the ironic thing is most of them started as reserve officers at the beginning of their careers.Comment

 A friend of mine is emplyed with the Santa Clara Police Reserve Dept, and says they are hiring. Hope this helps.  Comment
