Maglights

I was wondering how many cops still carry them, since I know they are heavy and their are a lot better models out there such as Streamlight and others.

I carry a streamlight and have a mag light in my gear bag for back up....

I have used the rechargeable Mag light while working in jail. But, I gave it to my brother later. When I went to patrol, I bought 2 Streamlights and used them until today.

I carry a 2D mag LED, the new model with the Rebel LED. I also carry a Fenix TK20 and I'm looking at the Quark series. The new mags are much brighter than before and have great throw.

I bought my Streamlight in 1978. I believe that was the second year of its existence. I recall kidding by buddies in the jail about spending $80 for the stupid thing. Well, I showed them by spending $85 the next year.

I have had to replace the on/off switch once or twice. Mine is the type that slides forward and back, not a push button. Other than that, it has served me well. I still have it and when we use to go "camping" in our motorhome, I always took it with us.

It certainly is better than the the plastic piece of junk the county issued us in 1976. They didn't even want it back when I retired.

I've carried an SL-20 my whole time. I don't think I've ever seen a maglight carried in patrol. I carry a G2Z as a backup.

Me too. The SL20 served me well. I have had it for over 20 years now and still works great. Its almost silver now like my hair. LOL

I lost two of my most charactered ones on Motors. Rear holders on the older BMWs would launch them. Oh well, I get to start over now.

I got a Mag-charger with the Terra-lux 3-led puck installed. I like it.

Never was much of a maglite fan. I was one of those guys who bought a streamlight SL-20 back in 1978 for $80 that "Retired" used to kid about. I still have it, and it works great. I have another one that is about 25 years old that I just replaced the original bulb in it. I've gone thru a few switches and batteries, but they are great lights. I carry a Stinger on my belt every day, adn they are excellent lights too.

I forgot to mention; mine is like that also. When I would go to a 459 call and it turned out to be the real thing, I'd use my flashlight to knock out the rest of the glass shards on the small windows before entering. If it was a big one, I'd use the baton, which was also a lot less black when I turned it in at retirement.

That is hilarious. I remember an older(retired) CHP officer that once showed me the teeth imprints on his PR-24..ouch!

Same here, although is has been a LONG time since I was in the field. I'm sure there are updated (LED) options available.

Ahhh.. the good 'ol Streamlight... I still have my last one with my name/emp#/unit engraved on it.

Since LASD would not let me keep/buy my 92SF when I was retired, the SL20, my Gonzalez 415, and my beat-to-hell Posse Box are the best reminders of my time as a patrol deputy.

Why did the dept. not let you buy your Beretta when you retired. When did you retire. When I did in 2003, they let me. $300 and only 2 of the mags. When I asked why I couldn't have the 3rd one, the clerk said, "Because."

I've heard SL-20's make great impact weapons when you don't have time to use the baton. Eheheh......
