DA's office, ME's office, PO. Is bounty hunting legal in CA still? PI is always a solid business, but I'd stay away from the 'cheaters' cases.

          How old's a senior?

Just curious. What age do you define as a senior? Just north of you, Marysville PD created a Computer forensic office, it was led by a Reservist (who switched over to full time)? You might look into some of the Reserve programs around in the area. Would you be a level I or a level II?

Have you already been to the academy? I assume you have not. If your knee and hip are standing in the way of the entrance test, you will be hard pressed to complete the academy. I can't think of any sworn LEO positions that don't require a Basic Post (academy).

Some local agencies (Sacramento Police) have CSO and CSI positions that don't require an academy. Although not sworn, gun carrying positions, they may be just as rewarding and exciting for you.

Nope. You still have to get over the 6' solid wall and 6' chain link fence to pass any POST academy in CA.

It's a shame if a well qualified person is excluded from a job because they might not be able to perform one or two tasks that might not be required in all positions in the force.

Just a suggestion, it might not go anywhere but have a look at the ADA Americans with Disabilities Act for information as it pertains to law enforcement. I picked up some tidbits buy you might find additional info that helps your case for employment with law enforcement.

                Physical Fitness Testing

The recent passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act(1) (ADA) and the Civil Rights Act of 1991(2) (CRA of 1991) makes it imperative that law enforcement agencies carefully identify the essential functions of police work and develop physical fitness standards and tests based on those functions. Under the ADA, employers may not refuse to hire or discharge a qualified individual with a disability because of that disability, unless that person, with or without a reasonable accommodation, is unable to perform the essential functions of the job.(3)
Ninth Circuit Says City Must Accommodate Disabled Police Officers

Here is an interesting web page http://porac.org/ldf/cases/cripe%20v...an%20jose.html

Here is a case in Denver where LEOs won against the city for not reassigning him to a career position that he could perform after they were disabled.

Here is the settlement for the above case http://www.ada.gov/denver.htm

Considedr this guy. He had to do the 100 yd. dash, and make it over the 6 ft. wall all over again. In order to pass the CHP's running tests, Remmel used a $30,000 pair of lighter, springier metal legs. He's run the 100 yards in 17.2 seconds - 18.6 seconds when he's wearing his bulletproof vest and gun belt.

Yes, I was the 3rd officer on scene. He's back to driving, patroling, arresting BG's, testifying in court, all the stuff. There are no exceptions. If a state of emergency is put out, or a riot, he must respond the same as all other officers. Do me a favor, give it a watch.

Like him, I wanted to be able to decide when I wanted to retire. Unfortunately, I didn't have that choice as my body made it for me. I am glad he was able to get back to what he loved and he is an inspiration I am sure, to a lot of injured leos fighting to stay on the job.

That video hit close to home for me, tho I certainly realize my injuries are in no way comparable to his.

My dept. didn't officially have light duty positions and working in custody at the time, all of the outside security ones were filled.

I hope he can stay on until he decides to retire.
