Don't aim taser at chest apparently

Well goodbye taser, guess he doesn't like to make any money.

The maker of Taser stun guns has advised law enforcement agencies to avoid hitting suspects in the chest, partly "to minimize controversy."

The taser is an alternative to a metal club not firearms amnesty international.

    yes, aim for the toe.
I'm pretty sure it is all for the public and legalities more than anything.

I believe my department will get rid of it once the manufacturer states it's unsafe to shoot it center body mass. Too much possible liability since you are using it against manufacturer instructions, and honestly no other part of the body is really big enough to aim at to get the second dart in.

We just sent out a bulletin to aim for the abdomen, which is what they began training a while back.

Shooting them in the back is much more effective. A dart on each side of the spine disrupts things pretty well.

Dry Gulchin' and back shootin' ain't necessarily all bad..........

My first thought when I saw this was WTF?

It seemed like they were trying to shift liability from themselves to the user.

Then it occurred to me that maybe that is not all bad. The user is the guy that needs to take responsibility for the use of the thing, not the manufacturer. The manufacturer has no control over how the thing is used.

I still think it is better to Taser someone rather than shoot them, but I am not convinced that is the choice that is being made when a Taser is used. It seems most of the time its not Taser or shoot. Its Taser or stick, or other physical methods.

It seems to me the problem with this device has been that it was thought to be safe to use for a long time until dozens (maybe hundreds) of deaths of Taserees shortly after their Taser experience turned up.

I think the idea that it is safe has to go away, and replace it with the idea that it is safer than a 40 caliber HP.

There just are not a whole lot of good options out there for non-lethal ways of subduing an assailant. It seems even just handcuffing someone results in something like a dozen deaths a year.

The highly publicized but relatively rare recreational uses of the Taser don't help the situation any.

Substantially more people die annually from Excited Delirium than from the use of a taser. Rarely do both happen in the same incident.

Does Amnesty International know that the alternative to Taser in some instances is lethal force? Wtf?

Police said Ard fired his stun gun toward Steen when the teen fled on his bicycle.

Although the Taser bolt missed its target, the teen eventually crashed his bicycle and fell into the path of the police car, according to Pensacola Assistant Police Chief Chip Simmons

They didn't say don't aim at the chest. They said it's better to aim at the abdomen (something about nerve bundles and such). Also takes the risk of potentially shooting high and hitting face or hitting breast on a female.

Also they're saying that if you hit abdomen and the subject croaks it's going to be hard for anyone to try and blame taser as cause of heart failure thus taking away some of the hassle.

So.... if you read the actual note that Taser sent instead of a news article you'll see what I mean.

They recommend tasing them in the back? So now they'll get sued for tasing someone in the back as they were running away. You just can't win.
